Client: Private
Environmental Advisors and Building Services Engineers: LEDA
Architects: LEDA
Project value: £75K
Completion date: 2007
The client's brief was to adapt a Victorian home to create a contemporary living space for family to enjoy and use to its full potential. The key drivers for the project were increased levels of natural light into the new extension and into the house, the need for a large seamless living / dining/ kitchen area. The new glazed extension to the rear mirrors the form of the existing outrigger, housing the kitchen. This provides a large flexible space for the family that's naturally lit, giving a sense of a connection with outdoors.
The extension will use locally sourced recycled materials for the stone walls and natural slate room. The structure will be highly insulated beyond current building regulations standard and the glazing will be high performance double glazed units with a u-value of 1.7 W/m2K.
LEDA are employed as environmental advisors and building services engineers on the project looking at the overall environmental strategy for the whole building and the interaction with old and new.
